Oil or antifreeze reaching
the catalytic converter
Oil or antifreeze reaching the exhaust system may obstruct
passage through the catalytic converter by creating cinders
that impregnate its ceramic walls. These cinder deposits give
rise to two problems: first, they prevent the catalytic converter
acting on the gas flow and secondly, since they obstruct the
pores of the ceramic, an increase in back-pressure takes place
and the heat and gases may even return to the engine. In this
case, the engine may be receiving exhaust gases within the
combustion chamber, thus reducing the performance of the following
engine cycle. The result is a clear power loss and overheating
of the engine components. Possible causes are: worn segments,
worn valve seats, faulty joints, damaged engine components,
etc... |
